July sees the launch of the International Youth Arts Festival – the biggest arts festival for the under 26’s in the United Kingdom. Each year, the small suburb of Kingston Upon Thames becomes a hive of activity with 6,000 young people taking part in 350 events across 18 venues.
HRH the Earl of Wessex will be attending the official opening of the festival ‘Raise the Roof’ at the Rose Theatre on Friday the 11th July. Afterwards, the festival kicks into gear and runs all the way through to the 27th.
The Rose acts as the central hub for the festival with an array of events taking place in the main space, the studio, the gallery and the café throughout July. With free events, street theatre, music, carnivals and workshops, the International Youth Arts Festival is more than just a run of children’s shows.
“The International Youth Arts Festival works with young people to help them develop their work into professional, sustainable creative businesses in these austere times. Many of our companies have gone onto perform at Edinburgh and Glastonbury and have become respected, acclaimed performers in their creative field. There’s so much happening at IYAF this year and I can’t wait for it to start.” Aniela Zaba, Artistic Director, International Youth Arts Festival.
Last year, Impact became an official sponsor of the International Youth Arts Festival and continue to support the festival – running online and print marketing campaigns as well as helping nurture young marketeers throughout the festival.
