CREATE Festival 2011

CREATE is an annual multi-arts and cultural festival that happens across East and South East London each summer, celebrating ‘The Right Side of London’. A magnificent programme of events takes place over a five-week period in the five host boroughs of London 2012: Greenwich, Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest.

Local communities are given the chance to take part in and attend talks, workshops, concerts, carnivals, screenings, performances, parties, exhibitions and live arts events – including the amazing Floating Cinema, Folly for a Flyover, Search Party and East London Art Weekend. With most events being completely free, it’s the perfect opportunity for Londoners to experience the best that East London has to offer.

The festival takes place in partnership with more than 100 arts organisations across London, including Impact. We are proud to be an official partner and sponsor for the second year running, providing a team of over 65 staff members to promote the festival and engage Londoners via word-of-mouth, street promotion, print display and poster campaigns. Our Promotions Team, many of whom live in East London and are actively involved in the arts, spread the message by directly speaking to local businesses and communities, building strong relationships, and becoming cultural ambassadors for the festival.

This year we visited 2,000 venues and businesses in more than 20 areas including: Barking, Dagenham, Bethnal Green, Cambridge Heath, Dalston, Broadway Market, Greenwich, Blackheath, Hackney Central, Homerton, Islington, Mile End, Stepney Green, Whitechapel, Shoreditch, Hoxton, Stoke Newington, Clapton, Stratford, Leyton, Walthamstow, The City, Whitechapel and Brick Lane.

The Impact Promotions Team was also strategically positioned at tube stations, train stations, bus stations, shopping centres and weekend markets – handing out the festival’s ‘official’ newspaper.

In total over 300,000 newspapers in tailor-made designer cotton tote bags were distributed, making this one of the biggest campaigns of the year. If you were lucky enough to receive one – we made it happen!

With the 2012 Olympics soon approaching, Impact looks forward to expanding its efforts next year, building on the strong relationship with CREATE and continuing to offer innovative and unique forms of word-of-mouth that help to create a long lasting buzz and strong sense of community, involvement and excitement in East London.
